Ran into James Marsden in the catering tent on the set of The Best of Me Movie today! He's playing Dawson in the film.
Every year for Valentine’s Day, I write a letter to my wife, Cathy, to articulate all of the many things that I love about her. As you might guess, those letters can get quite lengthy. It’s a tradition that’s important, not just because I want Cathy to know how much I appreciate her, but also because it’s a chance to take time out of my busy life and reflect on the many lucky years we’ve already spent together. This year, after spending time with Cathy and the kids, I’ll be heading off to Patagonia this weekend with a longtime friend.
It’s a change of pace from last year’s Valentine’s Day, which saw the release of Safe Haven. Though I don’t have a film out this February, there is a new DVD collection: the Nicholas Sparks Limited Edition Collection, which compiles Safe Haven, The Lucky One, Dear John, Nights in Rodanthe, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and Message In A Bottle into what is, I think, a beautiful package. You can buy it in stores or online now.
I hope that you’ll have a Happy Valentine’s Day this year! Whatever your plans might be, and whomever you might spend it with, I hope you’ll remember to celebrate all of your loved-ones—friends, family, and significant others included.
In case you've missed it, we have just started revealing the first two chapters from my upcoming novel, The Longest Ride, and those of you that help us fill in the missing words will have a chance to win an advanced copy BEFORE it hits stores September 17th!
For Twitter fans, simply use #TheLongestRide in your tweets and every word from your message will count towards unlocking the hidden words below. Facebook users just need to like or comment. Roll your mouse over each blank space to see how many times that word needs to be used to unlock it. Five lucky Tweets, and five Facebook users will be selected at random as winners. Visit my site to watch and help the reveal unfold.
Last, as a thank you to all my mailing list subscribers, both chapters will be sent directly to you once they are unlocked and I invite you to check back to my website on September 9, for information on how to win one of many signed copies of The Longest Ride.
Happy (almost) Fall! I’m traveling through Brazil as I write this, so I want to give a special recognition to my Brazilian fans: thank you for coming out to see me! For those of you in the States, I hope to see you soon, too, as I’ll be hitting the road on September 17th, when my next (and 17th) novel will be published. In just a few short weeks, I’ll be kicking off my book tour at the Target store in my hometown of New Bern, North Carolina. Visit my website to pre-order the book and to find my full tour schedule.
If you’re not in one of the cities where I’ll be on touring, don’t worry: you can still win a signed copy the week before the book is released. Stay tuned to my website, Facebook, and Twitter on September 9 and 10th for details of a special scavenger hunt at select, participating bookstores, and for other opportunities to win a copy of The Longest Ride. And if you want a sneak peek at the first two chapters, check my website on September 3rd! This might be my favorite book that I’ve written since The Notebook, so I really can’t wait to share it with you.
As you read, you may even recognize the name Marcia Peak, who is a character in the book. That’s because the real-life Marcia Peak was the winner from Godiva’s The Sweetest Story Ever Told sweepstakes, which was held ahead of Valentine’s Day in 2012. Marcia was the Grand Prize Winner, and in addition to winning a lifetime supply of chocolate from Godiva, she also got to be a character in The Longest Ride. Thank you, Marcia, for loaning me your name!
It’s not only book news that I have to share with you. I’m excited to announce that Lifetime Television is planning “Deliverance Creek”, a two-hour period film that will serve as a backdoor pilot for an hour long drama to air on the network next year. The show takes place at the end of the Civil War and follows Belle Barlow, a young woman who is faced with uncertainty as she attempts to defend her family’s land by any means—even if it means becoming an outlaw. I’ll keep you posted as this show develops.
Hope to see many of you on the road! I can’t wait to hear what you think of the new book!
I’m busy at work on my next novel, and looking ahead to an exciting fall. With the publication of The Longest Ride on September 17th, I’ll be touring the country and hope to see many of you in your hometowns.
While I can’t tell you just yet about the book I’m currently writing, I do have some news for parents of teenagers: I am honored now to announce that Walmart will be including the Novel Learning Series as part of their back-to-school sale, beginning the week of July 22nd and continuing through Labor Day. For those of you who don’t yet know about the Novel Learning Series, it’s an initiative I started with my brother Micah to create educational editions of my books, with ACT and SAT-style reading comprehension questions and writing prompts interspersed throughout the text. The hope is to engage teens with contemporary, accessible novels while also providing them with a deeper understanding of the stories and preparing them for greater success in the classroom and on college entrance exams.
I truly believe that reading is a lifelong passion that doesn’t only improve students’ grades but enriches their lives, and I’m honored that Walmart will carry the Novel Learning Series in its stores. I’m even more humbled that you’ve loved my novels, and I hope your teenagers will, too. You can check out the Novel Learning Series when you’re at Walmart equipping your teen for the school year ahead, and in the meantime you can read more about it here online, here.
As always, I thank you for reading.
